When the economy slows down business owners look for new customers. Often they will begin with putting salespeople to work cold calling. The problem is that 95% of cold calls result in hang ups. Believe it or not, as I was typing an accounting firm called me to offer me their services. I told the caller I've got my accounting and payroll needs covered but thanks anyway. The caller persisted by telling me that most business owners do have their accounting and payroll needs covered but they find that it is always good to get another point of view from a no obligation consultation. Again i said, "Thanks but it isn't something I'd be interest in". By now the caller has made five more calls and is beginning to wonder what job she might find after she quits this one. Since cold calling has such poor results the obvious question should be what can you do to get more business? Here is a good rule of thumb to go by; 95% of the people YOU cold call with say "no" but if THEY call you then you've got a 95% chance of making the sale. The reason this is so is that they wouldn't have called you if they didn't need and want what you sell. So now all you need to do is to get them to call you, but how can you do that?

Let's face it, if they took the time to go on the Internet and search for a business that offers the products or services of your business then they are very interested. You have a great chance of making this sale because they want what you offer so much that they came looking for you, once they found your website they liked what they saw so they called you. Your job at this point is simply to NOT mess up the sale because they want to purchase.
